Cultivating bodily knowing
5 workshops about the relating body

In a time that privileges the rational and measurable, other forms of knowing – such as practical and bodily knowing – risk being overlooked. At the same time, those of us who work as therapists, coaches, and consultants know that much of what unfolds between people happens beyond words.
Join our on-line workshop series

Modules
1. The Art of Wondering.
In this opening session, participants cultivate curiosity, presence and responsiveness, drawing on the aesthetic and philosophical roots of Gestalt therapy. These foundational capacities help us navigate the unpredictable as each moment unfolds, see the familiar with fresh eyes and stay grounded in the space of not-knowing, where new possibilities can emerge. This session will set the ground for deepening bodily awareness in the sessions that follow.
2. Discovering the Intelligence of the Moving–Feeling–Sensing Body.
Building on an attitude of wonder, this session invites participants to explore how movement forms the foundation of lived experience. Through guided practice we bring felt experience to the foreground, attending to subtle movement interactions that shape how we are affected by and respond to situations. Cultivating awareness of these dynamics provides insights into relational processes and the way meaning emerges between therapist and client.
3. Moving from Sensing to Knowing:
Understanding the Forming of Forms with heightened awareness of bodily experience, we now explore how our sense of self and the world develops through ongoing movement dialogues, already from the outset of life.
Participants will gain a felt understanding of the reflexive, co-created nature of contacting – how we shape and are shaped by one another in every meeting. This session illuminates the processes through which agency arises, and how personal, social and cultural contexts influence relational patterns.
4. Attending to the Wisdom of the Habit Body
Expanding our understanding of relational patterns and their bodily roots, we examine how habitual responses are formed and maintained. Participants explore how past experiences and anticipated futures manifests in the present through our moving-feeling-sensing body.
Applying a developmental and somatic lens, we uncover how habitual patterns serve relational functions and reveal enduring relational and existential themes.
5. Navigating Challenge and Support
In the final session, we integrate insights from previous workshops. We will examine the often-tacit processes involved in creating holding of the therapeutic and professional space and inquire into this as a form of bodily knowing. In structured small-group sessions, participants will have the opportunity to practice their skills in working therapeutically with movement-based interventions.
